The Culture and Health Project in Greater Minnesota

The Center for Cross-Cultural Health's Culture & Health Project works with communities in Greater Minnesota that are seeking guidance in meeting the health needs of their diverse populations. By linking Minnesota Extension Service educators with health care providers and other community members, the project develops cultural competency training for health and social service professionals working with people from different cultures. Culturally competent care is defined by the Center as a system that acknowledges and incorporates - at all levels - the importance of the role that culture plays in mental, physical, and even oral health; and the adaptation of services to meet culturally unique needs. It is an essential component of services in communities with diverse populations.
