2-5a Palma L. Valverde Palma Valverde began her work in medical interpreting at The New York City Health and Hospital Corporation (HHC), in 1984. She brought to this work a background that included free lance interpreting and translating, research and writing as well as extensive research in the field of medical interpreting; the writing of a curriculum for the teaching of dialogue simultaneous in the medical setting; two studies that show that training interpreters in this methodology results in very significant reductions in interpretative errors, in clinicians being able to garner more and better quality of information from their clients, in trained interpreters reporting higher levels of professionalism and competency. Ms. Valverde was one of the founders of the Hunter College CIP. Ms. Valverde is the Director of the Bellevue Interpreters Program; the Program offers full time, trained interpreters in English and Spanish, Chinese Dialects, Polish and Bengali. NEXT > |
