This tool is intended to evaluate a medical resident's level of cultural proficiency. The tool assesses cultural competence in five levels and makes recommendations for what level residents should be expected to accomplish. This tool can be used to assess curricula developed to improve resident's cultural and linguistic competence during residency.

New York University Culture and Psychiatry Curriculum

Resource

In 2008, NYU piloted a new required course with 14 one hour meetings devoted to culture and psychiatry for third year psychiatry residents. This curriculum was informed by a study sponsored by the Group for Advancement of Psychiatry's Cultural Committee, as well as the American Psychiatric Association/Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Minority Fellowship Program.
