The goal of this document is to standardize healthcare interpreting practices across California by providing a set of ethical principles, interpreting protocols, and guidance on roles particular to the specialty of healthcare interpreting. These Standards of Practice serve as a reference for all healthcare interpreters and can be the basis for the development of job descriptions, performance evaluations, and organizational policies and procedures that will ultimately contribute to quality control. The standards can also be used to develop training curricula. Though developed for California state accreditation, certification, and licenser, the standards can be applied nationally.
