Hospital Working Group Report: Action Steps and Recommendations for Boston Hospitals

Organization:
Boston Public Health Commission
Published Date:
2005

This report is a part of a workgroup pulled together by Boston's Mayor in 2003. The workgroup's goal was to develop a guideline for eliminating the health outcomes gap affecting Boston's residents of color. This report outlines the recommendations that this workgroup made for hospitals in Boston. Recommendations include collecting information on race and ethnicity, improving cultural competence, diversifying the health care workforce, and conducting outreach to engage the community in decision-making. These guidelines, though developed for Boston hospitals, could adapted to be implemented in hospitals across the country.
