The intent of this study was to examine the nature and extent of the CLAS standards in managed care organizations (MCOs) across the country and highlight promising CLAS practices implemented by these organizations. In addition, the project set out to fill a significant gap in the health care field by identifying and developing a comprehensive conceptual framework that includes essential components of CLAS and by developing an assessment tool that offers sound measures of these components. The exploratory study provides a good background on the CLAS standards within a managed care perspective, highlights innovative practices that managed care organizations can adapt, and instruments that an MCO can utilize to effectively monitor and improve services for culturally and linguistically diverse groups.
