This journal article presents on the results of a survey to assess residents’ attitudes about cross-cultural care, perceptions of their preparedness to deliver quality care to diverse patient populations, and educational experiences and educational climate regarding cross-cultural training. While most doctors believe that cultural issues are important, many receive little or no training in this area. Based on these results the authors make recommendations for improving cross-cultural education by increasing opportunities for training, mentoring, and evaluation in order to ultimately help eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health care.
