This document is the final report for the Cultural Competence Research Agenda project, sponsored by the Office of Minority Health (OMH) and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to examine how cultural competence affects health care delivery and health outcomes. It completes a process begun in 1998 with the OMH-sponsored development of national standards for culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) in health care. This report provides a research agenda on cultural competence in health care to promote the creation of an evidence base to address the fundamental questions that policymakers and providers have about the intrinsic and relative value of different cultural competence methods and programs.
